Yachting Australia Safety Survey – Victorian Results

-A brief overview from our Risk Management and Safety Chair, Ray Shaw-

 The recent safety survey conducted by YA covered many keys aspects of a sailing club’s operations;

        How clubs recruit, train and deploy volunteer resources in conducting sailing.

  •        The role of a club risk management plan and its place in helping to provide a safer sailing environment
  •        The need for clear procedures and training in managing safety related incidents
  •        Key aspects of race management

While the results overall are satisfactory, there clearly are areas for improvement across the board. Sailing is largely a self-regulated sport and only by all clubs paying ongoing attention to all aspects of risk management and safety can we expect to be able to provide the safer sailing environment expected by our members. All clubs should carefully consider the results of the survey and address any shortcomings  that might apply.  Yachting Victoria is always available to help clubs in developing and deploying effective risk management plans and procedures.
